Hypnotherapist & Psychologist

Dave Hutton

Hello, I'm Dave Hutton, and I'm the driving force behind South Sound Hypnosis. My journey has been one of transformation, and I'm here to share it with you.

Five years ago I hit a crossroads in my life. Circumstances for me at the time had created a mental block of cognitive dissonance that I truly hadn’t experienced since I was in college. It was a painful and confusing time, and I didn’t know what to do. My normal methods for dealing with issues and problems, such as working hard, practicing meditation and mindfulness, doing yoga and exercising and using will power were not helping and were simply ineffective with my current problem.

Upon doing extensive reading into new mind techniques I could employ to work on myself and go deeper, I came across an eye opening article on hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I found it very enlightening and serendipitous at the same time because I was also considering a career change and going back to my roots in the mental health field. I was not interested in the traditional mental health approach as I had worked in that field for several years and desired something…different.

Up until this time, I had really only seen hypnosis through the lens of entertainment with stage hypnotists. Although I found stage hypnotism interesting and often funny, I never really considered it as a powerful tool for change.

I was very intrigued by the concept of Hypnotherapy and helping people make truly lasting changes, but I knew I had to see it for myself. If I was to become a hypnotherapist, then I owed it to myself and my future clients to go through the process and see what it was like and see what it could do for me.

Thus, I researched as many Hypnotherapists in the Pacific Northwest as I could, and, I came across an amazing person named Erika Flint who operates Cascade Hypnosis in Bellingham, WA. She opened up my worldview related to the unlimited potential of the mind unlike anyone I had met before. After my first session, I could feel a real shift and change. It felt like a powerful seed of positive and healthy change had been planted deeply in my mind. At the time, I couldn’t even explain it. The experience just felt…right.

I had 5 sessions with her and the hypnotherapy sessions I had were truly life changing. The main thing I want to tell you about those sessions is that, yes, the hypnotherapy helped immensely with the issue I came in for. But, the absolutely mind blowing aspect about these sessions was that through this process, I got to the real root of my problem which had actually started more than 20 years prior. THAT is the true power of hypnotherapy – you go deep into the mind and uncover many layers of your consciousness, much like an onion, until you get to the core.

That mental block I discussed earlier? Gone. The cognitive dissonance? Cleared. The crossroads of my life? I am now taking a path that really works for me and is healthy and bright, and my body, mind and spirit are once again in unison. I owe this all to Hypnotherapy.

After my sessions I continued the work on my own and learned self-hypnosis techniques. It was thrilling for me because not only had I seen how powerful and effective hypnosis was for me, but also now I could see Hypnotherapy as a real career choice and a beautiful new calling for me.

Shortly after, I decided I wanted to be a Hypnotherapist and was determined to graduate and become certified that year. Sadly, the world had other ideas in 2020 and the Covid pandemic put my new dream on temporary hiatus. But, in 2022 I attended the world-class hypnotherapy training program from Cascade Hypnosis with the one and only Erika Flint.

I can honestly say this is one of the best training schools in America and I am honored and proud to be certified by this school and to be certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists. In late 2022, I created my own Hypnotherapy business called South Sound Hypnosis and began my own practice in the state of Washington and opened my office in Olympia, WA.

I have been working in the field of hypnotherapy for over a year now and I also worked for several years as a mental health counselor and crisis coordinator. This, coupled with over 20 years of experience teaching meditation and yoga has given me a keen understanding of the body/mind connection and an impeccable ability to not only see the best in people, but also to bring the best out of people.

If there is only one thing I want you to know about yourself, it is this:

You have the right to be happy!
